Summer Fun

Aside from being a world-class ski destination, Niseko offers visitors a host of summer activities.

Popular outdoor adventure pursuits include whitewater rafting on the Shiribetsu River – which swells in spring as the snowfields melt – horse riding, mountain biking and hot-air ballooning.  There are a number of quality golf courses near Niseko, including the Arnold Palmer designed Niseko Golf Course, and many scenic hiking opportunities, including the five hour trek up Mount Youtei.

For those wanting to exert themselves in different ways, the Niseko region is famous for its fresh produce and local cuisine is of a very high quality.  Restaurants range from top-end to simple sushi houses and the local specialties are lamb BBQ, kushiyaki (skewers) and kani (crab) ramen.   Visitors can embark upon a culinary tour of regional destinations including Kutchan, Otaru (fishing port), Lake Toya (the venue for the recent G8 Leaders Summit) and of course Sapporo.
